Product Overview
MR20 is a 77GHz millimeter-wave radar designed for forward obstacle sensing, relative motion measurement and short-range environment perception. The sensor transmits millimeter-wave signals and processes the reflected echoes to estimate target distance and speed, while its multi-channel antenna architecture provides directional information for detected objects.
With a 20 m maximum detection range and 120° coverage in both azimuth and elevation, the MR20 is suitable for compact robotic platforms that need a wide field of view without using a large sensor. Its 40 ms measurement cycle supports responsive obstacle detection for mobile robots and other low-speed moving systems.
Unlike optical sensors that depend strongly on ambient lighting, the radar is intended for operation in challenging environments such as rain, snow, fog and dust. The radar enclosure is rated IP67, making it suitable for outdoor and semi-outdoor robotic installations when the overall system integration is appropriately protected.
Key Features
Wide 120° Detection Coverage
The MR20 provides a 120° azimuth beam and a 120° elevation beam, allowing one compact sensor to monitor a broad area in front of a robot or vehicle. This is useful where wide-angle obstacle awareness is more important than long-range sensing.
Distance, Direction and Speed Measurement
The radar reports key motion information for detected targets, including distance, direction and speed. This data can be used by a host computer or embedded controller for obstacle detection, motion analysis, safety logic and higher-level robotic perception.
Up to 16 Moving Targets
The onboard processing algorithm can identify and track up to 16 moving targets simultaneously, making the sensor useful in scenes with multiple pedestrians, vehicles or moving objects.
Compact Form Factor for Robot Integration
At approximately 40 × 40 × 24.5 mm and 60 g, the MR20 can be mounted on small UGVs, AMRs, research robots and other space-constrained platforms. Rear cable routing and mounting holes are intended to simplify mechanical integration.
77GHz 3T4R AoP Antenna Architecture
The radar uses a three-transmit, four-receive AoP antenna architecture to support directional measurement across its wide field of view. The 77GHz operating band is widely used for compact radar sensing where accurate short-range motion detection is required.
Development Resources for PC and Embedded Systems
Development materials include ROS 1/ROS 2 SDK packages, Python 3 examples for Ubuntu and Windows, STM32 HAL example code, and Windows serial host software for parameter configuration and basic data visualization.

Applications
UGV and Mobile Robot Obstacle Detection
Use the MR20 as a forward-facing obstacle sensor on UGVs, educational robots and research platforms where compact size, wide-angle coverage and direct motion information are useful for obstacle awareness.
AMR and AGV Safety Sensing
The sensor can provide target distance and relative motion data to an onboard controller on autonomous mobile robots and automated guided vehicles operating at low or moderate speeds.
Low-Speed Vehicle Forward and Reversing Assistance
The MR20 is suitable for low-speed vehicle research, forward collision awareness and reversing assistance where a 20 m detection range and moving-target speed measurement are appropriate.
Outdoor Robotics in Rain, Fog, Snow and Dust
Millimeter-wave sensing is useful for robots that must detect nearby moving objects in environments where cameras or other optical sensors can be affected by poor visibility. The IP67-rated radar enclosure further supports outdoor integration.
Robotics Research and Sensor Integration
ROS, Python, STM32 and Windows development resources make the MR20 suitable for university laboratories, prototype vehicles and research projects that need direct access to radar target data for algorithm development and system integration.
