Product Overview
The coupling comprises a robot-side component and a mating tool-side component. Once aligned and coupled, the electric locking mechanism secures the tool. The system is intended for robotic workflows in which the same arm alternates between grippers, fixtures and other end-effectors. Electrical power and signal routing can be configured through the tool interface and available I/O expansion modules.
The standard mechanical interface has an 80 mm outside diameter and a connected thickness of 71 mm (excluding the robot-side mounting flange). The actuator, locking mechanism and control electronics are integrated into the quick-change assembly.

Communication and Integration
QuickLink L2 supports Modbus RTU communication through RS-485. Device addressing and baud rate can be configured to suit the system architecture. Local button control and digital I/O control are also available for testing and industrial controller integration.
RS-485 Baud Rates by Firmware Version
| Firmware | Supported baud rates (bps) |
|---|---|
| V1.0 | 38,400 / 57,600 / 115,200 / 500,000 / 1,000,000 |
| V1.1 | 9,600 / 19,200 / 38,400 / 57,600 / 115,200 / 230,400 / 460,800 / 921,600 |
ROS, Python and C++ software interfaces are available for implementing tool-change commands and application-specific sequences. ROS distribution and driver-package details depend on the software package supplied with the order.
I/O Expansion and Tool-Side Power
10-pin, 20-pin and 30-pin I/O expansion modules are available. With the appropriate module, the platform supports up to 30 channels of customizable I/O for tool signals and control requirements. The system also supports control of electrical power supplied to the connected tool.
Expansion modules are configuration-dependent; module pin count should not be interpreted as a guarantee of an equal number of digital I/O channels in every installation.
Mechanical Retention on Power Loss
The steel-ball mechanical locking mechanism is self-locking. If electrical power is interrupted while the tool is coupled, the locking mechanism remains engaged instead of electrically releasing the tool. Safe tool handling still depends on correct mounting, load limits and application-level safety design.
Typical Applications
- Automatic end-effector exchange on industrial robot arms
- Robotics R&D and teaching laboratories
- Flexible manufacturing and assembly workstations
- Automotive and electronics manufacturing equipment
- Humanoid and embodied-robotics development
- Experimental robot tooling and fixture exchange
Before Ordering
Select the required tool-side quantity and any I/O expansion needs in the product options or purchase agreement. Robot mounting patterns, electrical connections, and application load conditions should be checked against the mechanical drawings and integration requirements.
Order processing: Made to Order; dispatched within 10 business days. Returns: Final Sale for non-defective orders, subject to applicable law. Shipping time begins after dispatch.
QuickLink L2 Electric Robotic Tool Changer — Key Features
Electric tool changing for robot arms and automated tooling stations, combining a compact locking mechanism with digital control and software integration options.
Electric Tool Changing Without Pneumatics
An integrated electric drive actuates the locking mechanism without an external air compressor, pneumatic valve or air line for the tool-changing function. The compact coupling can be integrated into robot end-effector systems.

Robot-Side and Tool-Side Coupling
The robot-side coupling mates with a tool-side component to create a detachable mechanical connection for interchangeable end-effectors. Tool mounting and connector alignment are part of the system design.

Modbus RTU and Multiple Control Methods
Robot control can be implemented through RS-485 Modbus RTU, digital I/O or the local control button. Modbus device addressing and supported baud rates are configurable.

Optional I/O Expansion up to 30 Channels
Optional 10-pin, 20-pin and 30-pin expansion modules accommodate different tooling signal requirements. The system supports up to 30 channels of configurable I/O with the appropriate expansion module.

Tool-Side Power Management
Tool-side power can be controlled as part of an automated operation sequence. For example, power may be enabled after tool coupling and disabled before tool release, as required by the end-effector.

Mechanical Self-Locking During Power Interruption
The steel-ball locking mechanism is mechanically self-locking. During an electrical power interruption, a coupled tool remains mechanically retained; equipment-level safety requirements and load constraints continue to apply.

ROS, Python and C++ Development Interfaces
Integration interfaces for ROS, Python and C++ support secondary development, automated tool-change sequences and robotics testing workflows. Visual configuration and diagnostic software supports status monitoring, parameter configuration and communication testing.

Automatic Tool-Change Workflow
A typical sequence involves approaching a tool station, coupling the tool, checking connection status, enabling tool-side power and executing a task. The exact sequence depends on the robot, fixture and application safety configuration.
